Young people – Make a difference as a Governor at SWYPFT

Posted to the Noticeboard on February 3, 2023

We are looking at recruiting young members here at South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.   We are a specialist NHS Foundation Trust that provides community, mental health and learning disability services to the people of Barnsley, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield. We also provide some medium secure (forensic) services to the whole of Yorkshire and the Humber.

We are conscious that young people need a way to share their views, who are passionate about mental health and learning disability services, treatment and support.  Becoming a member enables young people’s voice to be heard where it counts, to share their views, to influence decision making and to also be given the opportunity to be elected as a Governor.

Governors undertake key duties at the Council of Governors meeting and are provided with a mentor from other elected Governors in the Trust.

Young people from the age of 11 years old can become a member and vote and from the age of 16 years old become a Governor. Elections are held annually in January.

We are really excited to grow young people’s voice in the future development and delivery of our services across South West Yorkshire.

This opportunity also gives fantastic insight to young people to understand governance and leadership in the NHS, if they are considering a career with the NHS.

The attachments give more detail about the opportunity and a sign up form.

If you would like to have a further conversation, please reply to the email and one of the team can contact you or arrange for one of our Governor’s to visit your group.

We look forward to hearing from you very soon!
