Housing

If you are 16 or 17 and homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, Wakefield Council has a duty to make sure you receive the accommodation and support you need. No young person should be left without somewhere safe to stay. Contact Wakefield Council Housing & Homelessness Team.

For young people and adults who need help to keep their home, manage a tenancy, or prevent homelessness, Sustain Wakefield provides housing-related support and advice to help people stay safely housed and maintain their independence.

Top Tips

  • Talk to someone early if you’re worried about housing – don’t wait until it becomes a crisis.
  • Keep important documents safe (ID, tenancy agreements, benefit letters).
  • Ask for help if you’re struggling with rent, bills or managing your tenancy.
  • If you’re staying somewhere that feels unsafe, tell a trusted adult or support worker as soon as possible.
  • Remember – asking for help is a positive step and support is available.

If you are aged 18 or over and are sleeping rough, or worried about someone who is, StreetLink can connect you with local homelessness outreach services.
